If you receive the message, "Specified device identifier is out of range for your system", restarting the computer will usually resolve the issue.

If you still have the issue, try the following:

  1. In the program you are using (player or recorder) click View/Options.  In the player, what does it show under playback?  Does it show the device you're plugged into?  If the recorder, click Playback, under Confidence Monitoring, what does it show for type of driver and device?  Verify that it shows your headphones or speakers are plugged into the computer.  If not, you will need to close the program and plug the headphones into the computer.
  2. Try restarting the computer to see if that solves it. 
  3. In the program you are using (player or recorder) click View/Options.  If the player, what does it show under playback?  Does it show the device you're plugged into?  If the recorder, click Playback, under Confidence Monitoring, what does it show for type of driver and device?
